The best part of being a furniture craftswoman from my home here in Los Angeles is the opportunity to create beauty with eco-friendly materials. A chair is not just a chair. It can be a healthy alternative that fits with your modern lifestyle.
I feel that furniture should be your friend. That's how I view each piece I encounter whether it's a full restoration or new custom build. Even a pillow has a tale to tell, a friendly incremental way to convert your home into a non-toxic environment. Each is a solution that fits into the bigger picture of life, and looks damn good while doin' it.
Of course, good lookin' furniture is everywhere, so what's the big deal about environmentally safe furniture? It's actually why I started A Circle Home. I could not find anything that was artfully unique and made of genuinely sustainable materials and reflected my personal style. Our lives have cycles to them and we collect and discard furniture at different points as our relationships develop either as singles or married couples. Restoring furniture or buying long term furniture isn't about reinventing the wheel, and actually simplifies life by emphasizing quality over quantity.
For me, having grown up in a thrifty middle class family, we placed value on everything and I learned to make use of many things that others would throw away. My mom always wanted the cheapest price, but also knew there was always a cost to quality. I ultimately discovered that there are materials that are healthy in the long run and others that are not.
On this journey, take along furniture that has real value in the way it is crafted and how it is healthy. I understand mass market furniture's appeal on the pocketbook, but losing time and health are never worthwhile.

Inside most cushions I use natural rubber latex foam. This is a safe alternative to the mainstream foam that releases flame retardants inside your house every time you plop on it.
Natural rubber latex is the safest option over synthetic, petroleum based latex. Even hybrid and soy blends, a small amount of natural latex mixed with mostly synthetic latex greatly reduces the amount of off gassing. Our natural American made latex that is also locally fabricated; particularly Talalay natural latex which is more consistent and thus more costly than Dunlop processed latex. And better yet, it biodegrades unlike it's evil petroleum based twin.
These chairs are durable enough to last for decades and can be passed along to family members and treated as keepsakes.
In my corner of Los Angeles, in the shadow of Dodger Stadium and just off the 110 Freeway, I enjoy the privilege of developing these creations that are pleasant to view, durable to use, and healthy for you and the earth.
